Terrace hopping in Amersfoort

Did you guys also enjoy those glorious summer days last week? I’m officially calling it: the 2017 terrace season is open, and we need to cheers to that! Because whether you settle down in a lovely place in the morning sun and pretend to work behind your sunglasses, or you enjoy the warm summer evening until deep in the night, finding a good terrace is half the work.

There are SO many great placed in and around our Keistad, but you do of course need to know where to find them.  And because I’m not that mean, I’m listing my favourites for you.

If you’re in Amersfoor then you can’t escape De Hof. This is the biggest square in the city center, and the place to settle for a moment if shopping gets to be too much. A real terrace walhalla. But I always walk straight to De Bijzaeck! This wine bar is in a beautiful and historic 17th century building, and it has a cool terrace with wooden bar tables. No lukewarm prosecco and bitterballen here, but Godlike wines, and don’t forget the snacks!

Another favourite on De Hof  is Alberts. It’s not for nothing that this no-nonsense place is so popular: you can enjoy the sun all day on their terrace. This is another monumental building, and also the last place to function as a home on De Hof. Guess who lived here 50 years ago… Yep, the Alberts family! The logo is also based on an image of Jan Alberts. I love that kind of detail!

But Amersfoort is more than De Hof, so also take a walk towards De Groenmarkt. To Queens Vorstelijk Genieten. Unless you don’t like delicious breakfasts or lunches with homemade bread. In which case this is the wrong choice ?

Anyone who knows anything about Amersfoort knows that the area around De Nieuwe Stad is the place to be. Looking for the perfect afternoon sun? At Dara you’ll definitely need your sunglasses! But don’t let yourself be too blinded by the sun, because the menu is also worth seeing. Small dishes from different areas on the left, and ice cold bubbly on the right. There are worse things to consider…

And finally, there’s a newbie in the former Zeepfabriek (soap factory) on the Eemhaven. Kroast is a great down to earth place you can head to for a healthy lunch or for a big piece of cake or delicious drinks & snacks. The one doesn’t have to exclude the other. The inner courtyard is a gorgeous place, but you also get a great view of De Eem at the front of the building.

So now you know where to go, and if you order the sunshine I’ll see you there!
