Da Portare VIA just opened its third Utrecht location, and Cate and I were kindly invited to come celebrate with them. We arrived at Brederoplein 6 on a rainy evening feeling rather damp and dishevelled, but the warm, buzzing atmosphere inside was definitely promising. With live acoustic guitar, general cheer, and the tantalising scent of fresh pizza surrounding us, we started to unwind almost immediately.
Quality & taste
VIA’s aim is to create delicious wood oven pizzas from quality fresh ingredients – and to serve it all up at affordable prices. And if you’ve been to any of their other locations, you’ll already know that they’re right on target! Every pizza starts with a heavenly thin, crispy base, and then it gets topped with all matter of deliciousness: from the modest yet masterful margherita to more complex pies groaning under the weight of so much goodness.
Cate and I happily sampled everything that came out of VIA’s wood oven. My favourites were the vegetariana (veggies, goat’s cheese & olives) and, of course, the margherita… but I could also easily have eaten a whole loaf of their focaccia: fresh from the oven, scented with rosemary and garlic, and dipped into a simple sauce of olive oil, fresh tomato and capers – heavenly! Add a couple glasses of bubbly and some good company, and we were happy as clams.
Eat pizza, love culture & get connected
That’s VIA’s motto, and we definitely felt it that evening: from the relaxed, informal setting to the open kitchen, the deliciously fresh pizzas, and the friendly, welcoming vibe. Next time that pizza craving hits (so… like now?), I’ll be heading straight over! But if the prospect of getting off the couch/putting on pants is too daunting, then fret not: they also deliver 😉
