Klein Berlijn has been given a cool new look. Fortunately the concept remains the same: an awesome spot for anyone who wants to chill. Stay at the big reading tables to chill and read a magazine, or enjoy a beer on the terrace. And it’s still possible to stay late into the night dancing to electronic beats.
Raw & cool
For a raw but colorful look, they’ve used sturdy materials like worn wood and metal. The huge ass blue bear on the wall greets you with a smile. And graffiti of the Utrecht Kabouter (gnome) (KBTR) decorates the toilets. The place feels creative and cool!
No fuss
The menu is very simple and fuss free. Think snacks, bread and dip, toasties, German beer, and other drinks. And the prices are quite reasonable. From 18:00 you can also have dinner. Nothing calling your name on the menu? No problem, because Klein Berlijn has a ‘bring your own’ concept, so in terms of food you can pack something from home or have something delivered. How cool is that?
Rotsoord is the place to be
Klein Berlijn is not only a good place to lounge – it’s also part of the new ‘hotspot hub’ at Rotsoord. This is also where you’ll find LE:EN, een Asian fusion restaurant; Kwestie van Smaak, a wine and whisky shop; Restaurant WT Cafe & Urban Kitchen, located in the water tower with a gorgeous view of the city; and soon Het Ketelhuis in the old Pastoe factory. Rotsoord is still in development and I’m very curious to see how this part of the city will evolve. But Rotsoord is already the place to be in Utrecht.
