Cantina di David on the Oudegracht has been serving authentic Italian food for over 20 years. Feysun Canatar, owner since 2014, has brought new pep to the business. This year that translated into being awarded four temples by the Accademia Italiana Della Cucina and being voted “Italië Magazine’s Restaurant of the Year 2018.” The current concept brings Italian fine dining to Dom City.
A concept for years

This thoroughly Italian restaurant has been a household name in the city and region for over 20 years and for good reason. In the last four years, the formula has undergone impressive innovation, and with that, Cantina di David is bringing pure Italy to Dom City, with regional products from all 20 Italian regions, from the high Alps to dry Sardinia. The menu offers many special seasonal dishes and exclusive wines, bringing the essence of Italian cuisine to life. You need to experience it yourself soon. A visit is worthwhile in several respects.
A higher level
Good food deserves time and attention in the modern Italian cuisine too. That’s the power of the fully Italian kitchen brigade, who have been working for Cantina di David for years. After the recent upgrade of their kitchen formula, the interior was also given a makeover, and the restaurant’s former storage room was transformed into an atmospheric space with attention to many details. In the beautiful new space, large groups can enjoy Italian fine dining in a still intimate atmosphere. The new pep at Cantina di David recently translated into four temples, a kind of Italian Michelin star and the highest achievable number, awarded by the Accademia Italiana della Cucina in Milan. This association protects the Italian cuisine tradition.
Award winning restaurant
In October, Cantina di David also won the reader’s choice prize of the “Italïe Magazine Restaurant of the Year 2018” awards. To participate, the chef must be of Italian descent, the menu must be Italian and include a good selection of Italian wines, and the kitchen must use fresh ingredients and Italian products. And if that wasn’t enough, the restaurant was also nominated by architectenweb for the best interior of the year because of the renovations, a beautiful design by Brendan Bakker, which connected the adjacent 13th century cellar, formerly used as a storage room on the wharf, to the restaurant. It didn’t go further than the nomination, but that’s unique in itself of course!

It’s clear that if you want an exclusively Italian dining experience in a beautiful, atmospheric ambiance, there’s actually only one option: Cantina di David. Everything is an experience with this pearl in the city, so go eat there soon with your wife, girlfriend, friends, or colleagues. We’ve heard from the owner that at the beginning of 2019, a second formula will be opened following the same high standard: a bar-kitchen concept a bit further down the Vinkenburgstraat at the Neude.
